Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market OPEN!

April 27, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance has two exciting events planned for the last weekend of April.  Both will be held at the Community Center for the Arts, 6309 Church Street, Chincoteague.

On Friday, April 26, the Chincoteague Storytelling Guild’s Story Swap will be held at 7:00 PM with doors open at 6:30 PM.  Admission is free and free refreshments will be served.

In celebration of Public Library Week and in conjunction with the Chincoteague Island Library, the theme for the April Story Swap is Beloved Books.  Storytellers will entertain the audience with their stories of the books they loved growing up, or grew to love in adulthood.  Members of the audience are invited and encouraged to share their stories with the warm and receptive crowd.

Then, on Saturday, April 27, the Chincoteague Island Farmers and Artisans Market opens for the season.  The hours are 9 am to 1 pm with free parking, live music and food trucks from Captain E’s Hurricane Grill and In & Out Foodbox.

The Market is the place to find fresh local seafood, produce, eggs, meat, and other edibles from returning vendors like Chip Lewis, Tom’s Cove Aqua Farms, Whiteraven’s Nest, and Marshall Creek Farm.  Bayside Candles & Soaps offers locally made soaps and skincare products plus handmade jewelry and decorative items.  Charlie’s Place features plants plus creative woodwork.

Other arts and crafts vendors include Crystal Fairies with jewelry and paintings; Frame of Mind Photography with lots of pony photos and more; Eagle Tree Artisans offering jewelry, paintings, and cigar box ukuleles; and Lisa Fahrenstock who makes beaded hairclips, as well as skincare products and fabric items.

“Plan to spend awhile,” suggests Markets Manager Alex Hubb. “We’ll have great music by the popular local singer and guitarist Josh Barrett.  You can enjoy breakfast or lunch from the food trucks.  And the kids can play cornhole while you shop.”
