Chincoteague Island Library Summer Programs

The summer is heating up at the Chincoteague Island Library.  The Summer Reading Challenge, “Lubbock’s Learners”, Kickoff Party and Registration for students from Kindergarten through 12^th grade will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Library. Signups continue through June 20. All readers who turn in their reading logs on or before August 15 will receive a library bag filled with back-to-school supplies. The Wrap up Party will be held on August 22 at 10:00 AM at the Libray, including refreshments, distribution of back-to-school supplies, and special prize drawings!  This year the Summer Reading Challenge is being named “Lubbock’s Learners” thanks to a generous donation by the family of “Lubbock” a beloved pet who passed away last summer.

The first of the summer series for the popular children’s programs will begin on Thursday, June 27 at 10:00 AM. The Salisbury Zoo2You will visit the library for children of all ages!

July 11 through August 15 will be the summer session of Tales 4 Tots and Young Explorers. Tales 4 Tots is for children ages 2- 5 and will be held at the Library including songs, stories, finger plays, and crafts.  For the older children, ages 6- 10 the Young Explorers program will be in in the Theatre Annex on Thursdays at 10:00 AM.  Special programs featuring science, music, art, and more as well as stories and crafts are included in the Young Explorer programs.

All programs are free and open to the public due to the hard work of Library volunteers, donations and support from the community.  According to Chincoteague Island Library Board President, Linda Ryan, “The Library becomes a busy place in the summer.  The children’s programs, the summer reading challenge, and an increased number of patrons all add to a bustling time at Library. In addition to the programs for children the adult book clubs and the Annual Summer Sunset Cruise on June 20 add to the summer fun at the Library.  We invite residents and visitors alike to visit the Chincoteague Island Library. We are open 6 days a week and offer activities as well as a quiet spot for reading and relaxing. As always, programs are open to all residents and visitors alike”
