Mr. David Raymond Chew Sr., 61, beloved husband of Mary Lou Pruitt Chew and a resident of Bloxom, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 12, 2018, with his family at his side.

Born Jan. 19, 1957, in Fort Chaffee, Ark., he was the son of the late Clifford R. Chew and Virginia M. Chew. Following high school, Mr. Chew served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and later began working as a truck and equipment operator for the Virginia Department of Transportation. After 30 years with VDOT, he retired and was most recently employed with Pep-Up, Inc. as a fuel truck driver. Being present as a positive role model for his children, for all children, was very important to him. For many years, he devoted his time and efforts to participating in the PTA, was a scout leader for the Boy Scouts, and volunteered as a t-ball and Little League coach. He was a member of the God’s Missionary Church in Salisbury, Md., and was a longtime member of the Parksley Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Chew’s love and commitment to his family and community was admirable, on many levels. His memory and legacy will live on in the many lives he touched throughout his life.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, he is survived by his son, Henry C. Chew and wife, Sarah, of Bloxom; sister, Ruth Chew Lilliston and husband, Robert, of Parksley; mother-in-law, Betty P. Taylor, of Bloxom; daughter-in-law, Becky Midgett Chew, of Parksley; sister-in-law, Tammie Pruitt Noyes and husband, Ray of Exmore; brotherin-law, David K. Pruitt and wife, Sherry, of Temperanceville; four grandchildren, Trae Merritt, Owen Chew, David Chew III, and Evan Chew; and several nieces and nephews. Other than his parents, he was predeceased by his son, David Raymond Chew Jr. and father-in-law, Henry L. Pruitt.

Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on July 15, 2018, with Mr. George Fulk officiating. Interment was held in the Parksley Cemetery.
