Mr. Billups E. Lodge

Mr. Billups E. Lodge, 89, a proud native of Virginia, passed away peacefully on Dec. 1, 2018, in the caring and loving community of Embrace Hospice House in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was ready and eager to go to his eternal home with Jesus. 

Mr. Lodge was born on Nov. 10, 1929, in Richmond, Va., to the Rev. Jay Shenton and Francis Billups Lodge. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic University in 1952 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. On Dec. 7, 1957, he married the former Marian Carey Marshall, of Virginia Beach. After serving for 20 years, he retired as a commander in the U.S. Navy. Prior to retiring, he served as the public affairs officer of the Fifth Naval District in Norfolk, Va. 

Upon retirement, he joined the family business, Seaside Market, in Virginia Beach. He was a clever cartoonist and outstanding wood worker who crafted beautiful furniture that is cherished by his family to this day. In 2015, Mr. Lodge and his wife moved to Pawleys Island, S.C., with his daughter and son-in-law where he was a member of Surfside Presbyterian Church. 

Mr. Lodge is survived by his wife, Marian; two children, Dr. Jeffrey Sands Lodge and his wife, Daphne, and Elizabeth Allison Lodge Baxley and her husband, Terry; eight beloved grandchildren; and one great-grandson. 

A memorial service was held at Tabernacle Church in Norfolk, Va., on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018. A graveside burial was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
