Suspect Breaks Terms of Bond

Local police are looking for a rape and sodomy suspect from Machipongo who is accused of breaking the rules of his bond agreement.
Thomas Conklin, 21, of Widgen Lane, is wanted for the Sept. 6, 2017, crimes. He was initially arrested on Nov. 20, 2018. He was freed on $15,000 secured bond Nov. 27. Then on Dec. 4, his bond was revoked or modified because of “intoxication, contacting victim, (and) threats to self.” An order to rearrest him was made on Dec. 13.
Conklin’s preliminary hearing for the sex offenses was scheduled for Jan. 3. He is now listed as a fugitive.
A Belle Haven man was charged with communicating a written death or injury threat at a school sponsored event held Oct. 30.
A preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 17 in Northampton General District Court for Christopher Martin Custis, 47, of Cove Lane. Custis turned himself in to authorities Nov.19 and is free on a $4,000 unsecured bond.
The type of school event was not listed in records filed in the court. The file stated it was at an “elementary or secondary” event. The victim was also not disclosed.
Deputy J.P. Scott, of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, investigated. Paul Watson, an Eastville attorney, was retained to represent Custis.
Robert Riddick, no age available, of Norfolk, Va., was arrested Dec. 21 and charged with two counts of credit card larceny, credit card fraud, felony theft, and a third offense of petty larceny. Court records were filed Dec. 26.
Ebony Rena Baines, 28, of Washington Street in Exmore, was accused of the Dec. 21 crime of possessing a Schedule I or II drug. In April, Washington was given a three-year suspended sentence for the Aug. 8, 2016, crime of possessing cocaine, which was a second offense. Baines was also ordered to be on good behavior for five years and supervised probation for three years.
