The Chincoteague girls started off the year with a road loss to Crisfield, 50-31. Caroline Shelley led the Ponies at the net, posting 12, and Emma Jackson put up 9 points. Jackson also grabbed the team-high in rebounds with 12.
The Ponies moved on to face the Yellow Jackets in Eastville Jan. 8, and topped the home team, 48-41.
Caroline Thornton was back on the court as the Ponies’ No. 1 scorer, and played her part in the win with a 29-point game. Shelley tallied 11 points and had the most rebounds with 13.
Maeyann Delk led the Yellow Jackets at the net, potting 13 points. Brianna Bochman also helped lend her efforts with 12 on the board.
Thorton’s 19 points helped lift the Ponies to a win over Holly Grove on the island Jan. 9, and retired the Eagles to a 50-26 count.
Shelley put up 10 points with 16 rebounds. Tylar Libertino also contributed 2 points and 16 rebounds in the win.
Carlie Bell led the Eagles on the board, netting 12 points, and Sydney Stone notched 6.
Northampton fell to Salem, 73-30, Tuesday night in Eastville. The Lady Jackets will be back on the court tonight (Friday) to host the Nandua Warriors. The Ponies are set to face the Warriors on their home court Jan. 24.
The Arcadia Firebirds girls team out-shot the Warriors to come out on top to a 42-37 victory in Oak Hall, Jan. 3 to start off the year. They will take on the Yellow Jackets at home in Oak Hall Jan. 24.
The Warriors fell to Poquoson, 52-17, Jan. 7, and Hickory Jan. 9 by a 58-21 court at home.
Greta Bunce and Carly Wardius each posted 12 points apiece to help lead the Broadwater Vikings girls basketball team to a 39-19 win over Portsmouth Christian on the road Jan. 8. Virginia Ross led the team in rebounds with 15. Grade 8 student Taylor Leland tossed up the team’s lone 3-pointer of the night.
The girls hosted Denbigh Baptist last Friday in Exmore, falling in a close battle by a 39-31 count.
Wardius helped lead again with nine points, and Kerry Ford put up 8. Bunce had the team-high in rebounds with 7.
Broadwater lost Monday night’s road tilt to Veritas Collegiate Academy, 42-30. The girls are scheduled to hit the road to Atlantic Shores Christian tonight for their next matchup.
The Broadwater boys club fell short to their hosts, Portsmouth Christian, on Jan. 8, 58-24.
Ahmed Scarborough put up 11 points in the loss for the Vikings, and Clay Wardius posted 6.
On Jan. 11, the Vikings hosted Denbigh Baptist, and retired their visitors to a final score of 71-21, with Wardius leading the board with 14 points, along with help from Scarborough’s 11 and Brant Bloxom’s 10 points.
Scarborough netted 19 points Tuesday night to contribute to a 50-52 win over Stonebridge in Exmore. Bloxom potted 15 and Nathan Crumb put up 9.
The Broadwater boys are back on the court tomorrow night at Atlantic Shores Academy for a 7 p.m. court battle.
The Arcadia Firebirds boys club hosted the Nandua Warriors Jan. 3 in Oak Hall, notching a 54-46 win over their district rivals, but fell to Menchville on the road Jan. 9, 95-46.
Arcadia is on to host the Northampton boys Jan. 22 in Oak Hall.
The Yellow Jackets fell to the Norfolk Academy Bulldogs, 81-52, Jan. 3 in Eastville.
Jawaun Bell acheived his 1,000th career point during the matchup, tossing 24 total points against the Bull Dogs. Jeremiah Major and Corey Smith led with 4 rebounds, each.
The Yellow Jackets downed the Chincoteague Ponies Jan. 8 by a count of 82-61, on Chincoteague.
Vonte Coston posted the Yellow Jacket’s team high in tallies this go-round, netting 22. Kasai Clark contributed 21 points in the win. Aveyon Robinson-Taylor and Corey Smith posted seven rebounds apiece.
Wednesday night, the Yellow Jackets fell in overtime to Colonial Beach, 71-66, on the road.
Coston helped lead with 22 points, and teammate Bell put up 20. Major and Smith combined again to notch seven rebounds each.
The Yellow Jackets will take on the Nandua Warriors in Onley tonight at 7 p.m.
Nandua suffered losses to host team Poquoson, 60-38 on Jan. 7, and visiting Hickory Jan. 9, 64-52.
The Chincoteague Ponies edged Holly Grove by a 36-34 count Jan. 9, and will face the Warriors in Onley Jan. 24 for their next time out.
