Mrs. Nelda East Thornton Stant, 89, wife of the late Clifton Stant and a resident of Exmore, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onancock.

Born Sept. 25, 1929, in Northampton County, she was a daughter of the late Roy Thomas Ferguson and the late Beatrice Labbanon East Ferguson. Mrs. Stant was a homemaker, member of Exmore Baptist Church, and greatly enjoyed playing cards, bingo, putting puzzles together, gardening, and her fur babies.

Survivors include two daughters, Valerie Taylor (Wayne), of Hallwood, and Sandra Ruiz, of Parksley; a sister, Margaret F. Bull (Martin), of Parksley; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by three children, Burton Keith Thornton, Brenda Denise Ward, and Patrick Wayne Thornton; and seven brothers and sisters, Beatrice L. Hann, Eleanor Belote, Emma Sue Thompson, Roy T. Ferguson Jr., Virginia Lee Ferguson, and Elsie Hanson.

In accordance with Mrs. Stant’s wishes, a private family interment will be held at the Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery in Marionville.
