By Linda Cicoira — An Exmore man admitted to police that he bashed out the windows of his mother’s car with a baseball bat before hitting the woman in the head with the weapon.
A Northampton grand jury indicted James Jahlil Riley, 30, of Oakland Drive, Monday on a count of malicious wounding with intent to maim, disfigure, disable, or kill in connection with the July 1 incident.
Monica Riley met police at the corner of Oakland Drive and Main Street, in Exmore, to complain about what happened, according to records filed in Northampton Circuit Court. Deputy Jacob Foisey, of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, then went to the Riley home and found the defendant.
“Mr. Riley admitted to me that he had used a baseball bat to break the windows out in the car and then hit his mother when she came at him for breaking the windows,” Foisey wrote in court documents. The deputy wrote that he saw the broken windows and the laceration on the back of the victim’s head.
In another case, Aaquil Lamar Stevens, 30, of Woodcock Circle in Cape Charles, was indicted on a count of making a bomb threat to the Food Lion, in Cape Charles, on June 16. Information was offered to the grand jury by Deputy William Garrett, of NCSO. Stevens was arrested June 21.
Tramaine L. Milbourne, 33, of Somers Cove in Crisfield, Md., was indicted on a count of possession of cocaine and a count of possession of ecstasy, also known as MDMA, on March 23. He was arrested the same day. Officer J. Batakis, of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Police Department, gave information about the alleged crimes to the jury.
William James Gohring, 40, of Bennett Street in Parksley, was indicted on counts of possession of cocaine and possession of oxycodone. The crimes occurred April 8. Trooper J. Shaffer investigated.
Jasmez Cornell Upshur, 24, of Willow Lane in Birdsnest, was indicted on counts of breaking into the home of Robert L. Reed Sr. and stealing property valued at $500 or more on April 7. He was arrested July 17. Officer Brandon Parks, of the Exmore Police Department, investigated.
Christopher Elliott, 47, of Osprey Circle in Hebron, Md., and Bryan W. Clayton, 34, of Guildford Road in Bloxom, were charged with attempting to deliver or conspiring to deliver with another the drug fentanyl to a prisoner at the Eastern Shore Regional Jail, in Eastville. The incident occurred May 7. Deputy Glenn Bailey, of NCSO, investigated.
Nathan Pless, 44, of Union Station in Norfolk, Va., was indicted on a count of possessing heroin on June 8. He was arrested the next day. Officer S.M. Beasley, of the CBBT Police Department, investigated.
Roy Antoine Harris, 35, of Prince Albert Avenue in Colonial Heights, Va., was indicted on a count of possession of cocaine on June 3. Beasley investigated. Harris was arrested June 4.
Tray Von Ryheem Snead, 24, of Exmore, was indicted on counts of credit card larceny and credit card fraud in connection with April 6 incidents. The card belonged to Tamiya Wise, the defendant’s child’s mother. Snead was arrested April 7. He is accused of making three withdrawals from Wise’s account for a total of $549.50. There were also $94.50 in overdraft fees. Snead sent a note to Wise apologizing and promising to pay her back, according to the court record. Information about the case was given to the grand jury by former Sgt. Jason Campbell, of Exmore Police Department. Campbell is now working for the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office.
