By Stefanie Jackson – Northampton schools Chief Financial Officer Brook Thomas will speak publicly about a program that would provide free breakfast and lunch to all public school students in the county, Thursday, Oct. 10, 6 p.m., in the Northampton High School library.

The Community Eligibility Provision is a program funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. A school or school division qualifies for the program based on the percentage of students who can be directly certified as recipients of government assistance such as Medicaid.

Accomack County Public Schools implemented the program at the beginning of the current school year.

Thomas will explain how the Community Eligibility Provision works and why Northampton County Public Schools has chosen not to implement the program at this time.
