Mr. Jerry Lee Savage, loving husband and father and resident of Atlantic, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 14, 2019.  He was 72 years old. Born August 23, 1947, in Nassawadox, he was the son of the late Edward Judson and Myrtle Catherine Savage.

Mr. Savage was a true man of the Eastern Shore. Even more specifically of Wisharts Point, a place he loved and seldom felt the need to stray. He was a master craftsman with a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He started his career as a joiner for Criscraft boats. He worked for the union, building the first condominium in Ocean City, Md., and later for Perdue, and finally, for Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital, where he and Sue first met.

Those who knew him knew he loved everything about the outdoors. He loved to feed his family from the fish he caught and the deer and waterfowl he hunted or the garden he loved to tend. He could tell you the weather from the stars and a barometer or anything one would ever want to know about the ecology of the ESVA. Always seeing the best of people, he also had a great compassion for all animals and reference of nature.

Mr. Savage is survived and dearly missed by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sue Byrd Drummond Savage and his daughter, Cynthia Callison, both of Atlantic; stepson, Bobby Parks, of Pungoteague; and grandchildren, Taylor and Noah Lamphier, Jessica, Jacob and Jenna Parks. He will also be missed by his six great-grandchildren, Ariahna and Evelyn Lamphier, Dylan and Joanna Parks, and Scarlett and Charlotte McDonald.

Funeral services were conducted from the graveside at the John W. Taylor Cemetery, Temperanceville, Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.

Contributions in Mr. Savage’s memory can be made to the Eastern Shore SPCA, P.O. Box 164, Onley, VA 23418, Atlantic Volunteer Fire & Rescue, P.O. Box 207, Atlantic, VA 23303, or to Oak Hall Rescue, P.O. Box 128, Oak Hall, VA 23416.
