Mr. John Paul Baumgardner, 60, husband of the late Joan Marie Baumgardner, passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, at his son’s residence in Melfa. A native of Onancock, Mr. Baumgardner was born Jan. 7, 1959, in Nassawadox, to the late Robert Howard Baumgardner and Frances Chester Baumgardner.

Mr. Baumgardner was a lifelong waterman, and for the past several years he worked alongside his buddy, Timmy Pruitt. He enjoyed being outdoors, and if he wasn’t on the water, you’d find him in his yard. Mr. Baumgardner loved cutting grass, and often did so, whether it needed it or not. Over the last several months, he was unable to go outdoors as he used to, so he began studying the Bible. His faith became a source of strength and hope, as he knew he’d be reunited with his beloved wife and others who went before him.

Survivors include his children, Billy Baumgardner and Rachael, of Melfa, and Shirley Kelly and husband, Jason, of Temperanceville; sister, Pam Taylor and husband, John, of Onley; brothers, Eddie Baldwin and Florence, of Onancock, Joe Baumgardner and wife, Marie, of New York, and Leroy Baumgardner and wife, Laura, of Onley; brother-in-law, Richard Colonna, of Exmore; grandchildren, Alexis, Cheyenne, Anthony, Savannah, Haley and Jason; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Colonna.

A service to celebrate Mr. Baumgardner’s life will be held at the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating.

Contributions in Mr. Baumgardner’s memory may be made to the SPCA, P.O. Box 164, Onley, VA 23418.
