Mrs. Mary T. Chabak passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2019. She was born in Pennsylvania June 16, 1925, to immigrant parents, Rosie and George Bentz, from Austria and Yugoslavia. She had two brothers, Rudy and Frank. She married Edward Chabak Feb. 11, 1950.

She is survived by two daughters and their families, Paula and husband, Louis Hinds, of Onley, and Pam Chabak and spouse, Kathy Ortutay, of St. Clairsville, Ohio. There are also several surviving grandchildren and their families, as well as many members of Mrs. Chabak’s extended family.

Mrs. Chabak was always happy while sewing and crafting. She worked as a seamstress in shirt factories in Dunellen, N.J., and Reading, Pa., and as an injection mounding technician for Captive Plastics, in New Jersey, for many years. She had a successful craft business making Christmas ornaments, which she was proud to share made more money than what she was paid at Captive. Over the last 18 years, Mrs. Chabak did much charity work, sewing countless baby layettes and receiving blankets which she donated to Social Services in Atlanta, Ga., through St. Oliver’s Catholic Church and to the Nurse Family Partnership Eastern Shore District through St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.

A Funeral Mass was held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, with Father Rogelio L. Abadono officiating. Interment will take place at a later date, in New Jersey, where Mrs. Chabak and her late husband, Edward, lived the greater part of their married life.

Memorial donations may be sent to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, P.O. Box 860, Onley, VA.  23418.

Memory tributes may be shared with the family at www.williamsfuneralhomes.com.

Arrangements were made by the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home.
