The Northampton Yellow Jackets took to the road last week, traveling to Norfolk to wrestle in the Norfolk Academy Invitational. The tournament consisted of 16 teams ranging in size and talent. The returning Division II state champion, Poquoson High, took the crown with 234 points followed by Norfolk Academy with 183. The Jackets’ young squad found success as it put five wrestlers on the podium in a field that featured several returning state wrestlers and champions from last year.

Top performers for the Jackets include Aizmani Joseph, runner-up at 145 pounds, and Crescencio Sugia, runner-up at 285 pounds. Devon Johnson finished third at 132 pounds, Alonzo Capers placed fourth at 126 pounds, and Gavin Brittingham finished sixth at 170 pounds. The team’s efforts allowed for a ninth-place finish at the two-day tournament.

Broadwater’s William Wehner was also a participant at the tournament, placing third overall in the 113-pound division.

The Jackets will travel to Lancaster Dec. 21 to participate in the Lancaster High Duals. Nandua and Arcadia wrestling squads will travel north today to participate in the two-day Parkside Holiday Tournament.
