Mrs. Hallie Emma Watson, 84, of Chincoteague Island, passed away peacefully, after a three year battle with cancer, Feb.14, 2020, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Watson was born Oct. 22, 1936, on Chincoteague, the daughter of the late Clifton Randolph Jester and Emma Elizabeth Fletcher Jester.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Edward John “Eddie” Watson; children, Rev. Robert Randolph “Bobby” Johnson and his wife, Lynne, Robert “Elmer” Johnson Jr., William Frederick “Billy” Johnson and fiancé, Diana, daughter, Amelia Denise Stevens and husband, Allen, and her brother, Warner Jester; grandchildren, Rev. C. Starr Johnson and wife, Maria, Brandy N. Matthews and husband, Christian, C. Todd Johnson, Michael Freeny and fiancé, Dawn, Casey Johnson, Robert Elmer “Rob” Johnson III, Windy Mason, Lori Johnson, Jesse Johnson and his fiancé, C.W., Billy-Jo Johnson and Kevin Dwayne Johnson; sister-in-law, Ethel Bradley and her husband, Pat; and several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

One of her most special companions whom she adored was her little dog, “Tina.” If you were coming to visit, Tina announced your coming. She would watch you and Hallie to see if you loved her, and then she would bark when you were leaving because, she just had to tell you she now wanted you to stay.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Johnson; sisters, Kathryn, Margaret, and Judy; a grandson, Joshua Smullen; a granddaughter, Sabrina Thornton; and four brothers-in-law, Robert Sr., Raymond, Arthur, and Jimmy Watson.

Mrs. Watson loved people and, when talking, you would hear the words, “Bless their hearts!”

She worked at many area restaurants over the years and enjoyed serving Teaguers, as well as visitors, on our beautiful Chincoteague Island. Bobby, her son, saw what a good waitress could be by his Mom’s example and loves it to this day when he can get a top notch waitress that asks, ” Do you want more coffee?”

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, at the Union Baptist Church on Chincoteague with the Rev. Kevin Eley, the Rev. Bobby Johnson, and the Rev. Star Johnson officiating.

Interment was held in John Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Temperanceville.
