By Stefanie Jackson – A man in Northampton County died Friday night after he was struck by a vehicle while he was walking on Route 13 near Eastville.
David Andrews Hoover, 31, of Timmonsville, S.C., died while being airlifted to Norfolk Sentara Hospital, according to Virginia State Police.
The Northampton County Sheriff’s Office contacted the state police May 8, around 9:59 p.m., and reported a pedestrian had been struck on the highway, north of Simpkins Drive.
When troopers arrived at the scene, they encountered a subject lying on the road and a Nightingale helicopter that had been called by rescue.
Hoover was hit by the driver of a 2004 Toyota Camry. It appeared that alcohol consumption by the victim was a contributing factor in the accident.
The driver has not been charged with a crime and the accident investigation is ongoing.
Hoover’s family has been notified of the accident.
