Joseph Paul Thornton, affectionately called “Joey” by his loved ones, gained his angel wings on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020. A beautiful and cherished son, Joey was born Aug. 24, 2019, to Emory “Paul” Scott Thornton II and Alexandria Virginia “Alix” Rasmussen, of Parksley. His sweet smile would light up a room, and he had a love for all things bright and colorful, and he especially liked dinosaurs.

He leaves to honor and treasure his memory, his parents; sisters, Roriegh Virginia Thornton and Skylar Ann Thornton; paternal grandparents, Paula Small, of Onley, and Scotty Thornton Sr. and Shannon, of Moyock, N.C.; maternal grandparents, Thomas “Tommy” Rasmussen, of Hacksneck, and Mary Virginia and Larry Custis, of Harborton; paternal great-grandparents, JD and Pauline Small, of Onley; maternal great-grandparents, Thomas L. Rasmussen, of Craddockville, Everett Beasley, of Craddockville, and Larry and Cindy Custis, of Pungoteague; uncles, David Thornton, Wyatt Chesser, and Tommy Rasmussen; great uncle, Trey Small; honorary uncle, Clarence “Uncle Giggles” Sample; and a host of extended family members. Joey was predeceased by his maternal great-grandmother, Ruth Ellen Beasley.

A memorial service was conducted from the chapel of the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2020, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Rob Kelly officiating.
