Accomack County Public Schools Superintendent W.C. “Chris” Holland notified parents by letter Monday, Nov. 9,  of a coronavirus case at each of two schools: Kegotank Elementary and Nandua Middle School.

“Our school division is informing parents and guardians that a student or staff member has been diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19),” Holland wrote to Kegotank parents. “This person was on school premises on October 30, 2020 and did not have direct exposure with members of our community.”

October 30 was the same day Holland sent home a letter notifying parents of the first case to appear at the school. In that case, the person “… did have direct exposure with several members of our community,” Holland reported at the time. The school remained open.

Kegotank also remains open after this latest case was reported, while the local health department traces contacts.

In the case at Nandua Middle School, “This person was on school premises on November 2, 2020, and did not have direct exposure with members of our community,” Holland wrote.

Nandua Middle School remains open.

Both letters include instructions for monitoring students and family members for coronavirus symptoms.

Both letters advise, “People without symptoms do not need to seek care or be tested.  Those who become ill should contact their healthcare provider. Their doctor, in consultation with public health officials, will determine appropriate care and whether testing is necessary.  If your child has been exposed to or diagnosed with COVID-19, please report this to your school.  This information will be kept confidential.”
