Organizing Help

Dear Editor:

With the difficult times challenging our Eastern Shore communities, I would like to point out some of the efforts of our local chapter of Virginia Organizing, and how we have been meeting online to identify needs of those in the community.

Many may be so overwhelmed with difficulty that they cannot speak out for themselves, so our goal is to empower them to speak. Right now, our efforts are focused on the needs of school children, their teachers, and others in the educational field who are suffering from lack of resources, or who are just overburdened by the unpredictable circumstances confronting them on a daily basis. One of our chapter members (Holy Trinity Episcopal) has been providing “care packages” to teachers at Kegotank Elementary School as a show of support. We are asking now that the community at large would join forces and resources to help our educators navigate these unprecedented times.

Many students are facing a lack of technical support with their online learning programs. Some have difficulty getting reliable internet connections. Other students lack access to the Chromebook devices for doing their assignments. Our Eastern Shore is blessed to have a wealth of resources available that could make a difference in the lives of our students and educators. If you would like to lend a hand or other resources to help our public school students, please contact us for updates on current needs.
