Staff Report – Kiptopeke Elementary School has been closed for in-person instruction until Jan. 4, 2021, after winter vacation, Northampton County Public Schools Superintendent Eddie Lawrence wrote in a letter to parents Tuesday.

The school division was notified Monday that an individual at Kiptopeke Elementary had tested positive for COVID-19. No indication was made whether the individual was a student or a staff member, and no identifying information was given in accordance with privacy laws.

Others associated with the school have been quarantined “as a safety measure,” Lawrence wrote.

Kiptopeke’s virtual students will continue their regular schedules and hybrid students will receive learning packets to continue their education until the school reopens.

A schedule for picking up learning packets and school meals will be posted on Wednesday, Lawrence wrote.

Occohannock Elementary School also has been closed until after winter vacation since Lawrence’s Nov. 30 announcement that four individuals at that school had tested positive for COVID-19.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
