Mr. Wade W. Shrieves, 80, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family on Dec. 6, 2020.

He was born June 30, 1940, in Onancock, a son to the late Brantley Alfred and the late Mattie Miller Shrieves. Wade was an accomplished butcher at Colonial Stores, Meatland, and Young’s Meatbarn. After retiring, he became a car salesman for Frostrom’s and Kool Ford. He was an active member of Island Baptist Church of Chincoteague, where he enjoyed teaching Sunday School, helping with Vacation Bible School, and the Love Our Seniors Nursing Home ministry. He enjoyed spending his time with his “Bride,” children, and grandchildren, reading scripture and helping others.

Wade’s life was a living example of his favorite scripture, 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things have become new.”

Wade had a lively personality; he loved a good laugh and teasing others with his quick wit and “one liners.” He enjoyed greeting the older ladies at the church with “Hello Darlin’” and  “How does it feel to hug a real man?” He was always delighted to meet new friends and introduce himself with a strong handshake and “Hi, my name is Swade Reeves, I mean Wade Shrieves.”

Wade is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice Ruth Shrieves; his son, Weston, and his wife, Ashley Shrieves; two precious granddaughters, Addy and Ryleigh Shrieves, of New Church; his two daughters, Lanae and her husband, Bryan Schuster, of Salisbury, Md., Virginia and her husband, Andy Roderick, of Edmonds, Wash.; his cousin and best friend, Randy, and his wife, Dawn Miller, of Parksley; as well as an aunt and uncle, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita Isdell Shrieves.

A funeral service will be held at Island Baptist Church of Chincoteague by Pastor Phil Bennicoff and Pastor Rick Foster, on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at 2 p.m. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Island Baptist Church on Chincoteague. Burial will take place at Liberty Cemetery in Parksley.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Island Baptist Church, 3380 Willow St., Chincoteague Island, VA 23336.

Services are entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home Inc. on Chincoteague Island.
