Staff Report —

Accomack County Public Schools Superintendent W.C. “Chris” Holland notified parents in a  Dec. 14 letter that a student or staff member at Metompkin Elementary School has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

“This person was on school premises on December 9, 2020 and did not have direct exposure with several members of our community,” Holland wrote in the letter.

Metompkin Elementary remains open while the school division works with the health department “to identify any individuals who had close contact with the person to determine if they might have been exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19.”

Those identified as having been potentially exposed will be contacted by the health department.

Instructions for monitoring family members for COVID-19 can be found in Holland’s letter.
