Dear Editor:

I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation for all who helped bring the MLK Jr. Community Unity Day Celebration to WESR-FM.

It was a wonderful hour with so many local voices contributing to the message of Unity here on the Shore.

I know from personal experience how it feels to be in the Northampton H.S. cafeteria all these years to participate together in the celebration of the good work of so many in our community. It was a comfort to have this tradition continue through the magic of technology so that we could all still celebrate the important message of unity in action that was a part of the lessons of Dr. King.

Special thanks to Will Russell and Kelley Drummond Gaskill for bringing it to air and, of course, Kelley’s graceful hosting. I would like to give a huge thank you to Tracy Giddens-Jarrett for putting the program together for the radio broadcast.

And also great appreciation to Jane Cabarrus of the Northampton County N.A.A.C.P.; Bishop David Sabatino of the Accomack County N.A.A.C.P.; Donna Bozza of Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore; Superintendent Eddie Lawrence and Kiptopeke Principal Sabrina Parker of Northampton Public Schools for bringing the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Unity Day an Eastern Shore Celebration together as “One Dream! One World! One Community!”
