Chincoteague typically would be preparing for its popular annual spring seafood festival. This year, after more than a year of restrictions on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, an alternative celebration called “Around the Tump in 3 Days” is happening instead.
The Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce and the Virginia Tourism Corporation in a press release announced the celebration begins April 30.
Additionally, May 2-8 is National Travel and Tourism Week, according to the release.
“It has been a difficult year for all of us…now take a few moments to relax, rewind, recharge, and ‘Discover the Spirit of Chincoteague Island,’” the release said.
To participate in “Around the Tump in 3 Days,” visit the chamber of commerce office to purchase a playing card, which is sponsored by Mister Whippy, Chincoteague Cultural Alliance, Rustic & Rescued Antiques, DC Designs, Sea Shell Motel, Don’s Seafood Restaurant, Church Street Produce, Bike Depot, Refuge Inn, Beach & Bead, Taylor Street Plant Shop, Island Queen Apiary, Mudboy Guitar Works, Island Creamery, Museum of Chincoteague Island, and Backyard Firepit.
Participants in the event can visit those businesses for special offers, have their card validated, then return to the chamber for extra chances on an Extravaganza prize basket valued at more than $2,100, to be given away July 31.
Get eight or more businesses validated and return to the chamber office to receive one free Extravaganza raffle ticket.
