The Northampton Yellow Jackets hosted the Mathews Blue Devils June 16 in Eastville. The Jackets were given the four seed in the Division I Region A Tournament after going 4-6 in the regular season.

Northampton was shut out by the fifth-seeded Blue Devils who entered the game with a comparable record of 3-6-1. Mathews’ roster was young but anchored by standout goalie Jackson Putt whose presence in the goal was agonizing for the Jackets.

Northampton had several shots on goal in the first half but were unable to get anything in the net due to Putt. Putt’s large stature made it difficult to score as his lengthy arms and legs gobbled up shots from the pursuing Jackets.

The Jackets fell to the Blue Devils 3-0 ending their playoff push for the 2021 season. Mathews will advance to play the number one seed Rappahannock High School in the Regional semifinals.
