Shore Track and Field Athletes Shine at State Tournament

Athletes from Chincoteague, Nandua, and Arcadia participated in the Virgina High School League Track and Field State Championships held June 18 and 19 in Harrisonburg, Va.

Chincoteague standout Emma Jackson placed first in the 100-meter dash, fourth place in girls discus, and 10th place in girls long jump in the Class 1 division held June 18.

In Class II competition, Nandua’s Carlo Balmoria recorded strong showings, taking sixth place in the boys 1600-meter run, 11th place in the boys 800-meter race, and sharing an eighth-place finish with teammates David Gastelum, Ethan Harrower, and Brayden Shotwell in the 4×800 relay. Kennis Bailey, Ethan Elliot, Jordan Jones, and Gerald Pitt took fourth place in the 4×100 relay. The Nandua boys team tied for 22nd place overall.

The Nandua girls top finishers included Amber Myers, with a third-place finish in the girls 100-meter hurdles, and Amizyah Harmon, who placed fourth in the 100-meter dash. The girls team tied for 18th place overall.

Arcadia’s Kevin Cropper, placed third in the high jump, 11th in the triple jump, and shared a sixth-place finish in the 4×100 relay with teammates Terrance Reid, Markell Williams, and Renaldo Tull Jr. The Arcadia boys team finished 21st overall.

Arcadia girls saw two 12th place wins: Kalya Wharton in the 100-meter dash and Aniyah Miles in the triple jump.
