Virginia Eastern Shore Under Tropical Storm Watch

The following is a briefing from National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va., as of 7 a.m., July 7, about the potential impacts from Tropical Storm Elsa, currently located just off the west coast of Florida.   

Overview and Impacts:

  • Tropical Storm Elsa will make landfall along the west coast of Florida later this morning.
  • Elsa will track northeast near the southeast U.S. coast before tracking across North Carolina and southeast Virginia from Thursday into Thursday night.
  • Scattered instances of flash/urban flooding are possible across much of the area.
  • There is the potential for tropical storm force wind gusts across portions of northeast North Carolina and eastern Virginia.
  • An isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out across southeast Virginia, northeast North Carolina, and the Virginia Eastern Shore.
