Mr. Sylvanus Lofland Jr., 83, of Melfa, passed away quietly surrounded by his loving family Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onley.

Born in Melfa, Sylvanus was the son of the late Sylvanus Lofland Sr. and the late Ethel M. Lofland. He was affectionately known as “Ham” by his wife and “Bone” by his family and friends. For several years, he worked at the Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center, the Lewis Brothers Sawmill, Perdue Inc., and the Eastern Shore Yacht & Country Club.

Sylvanus was married to the love of his life, Mary E. Scarborough Lofland. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on May 23.

Private graveside services were held Saturday, July 17, 2021, at New Allen AME Cemetery, Nassawadox.

Ham/Bone leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Mary Lofland; daughters, Gladys Strand, Sheila Giddens, Mary Lofland, and Sandra Lofland; son, Sylanvus Lofland; sister, Ethel L. Young; one sister-in-law; two brothers-in-law; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Arrangements are by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
