Mr. Emerson Richard Smith, 77, of Melfa, died peacefully Aug. 5, 2021.

Emerson was born Aug. 29, 1943, in Jamesville, and was the son of the late Harry C. Smith and the late Ruth Somers Smith.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Emerson. He married the love of his life, Susan, on June 21, 1980, and his greatest joy was found in his three daughters. To know Emerson was to love him: a smile constantly on his face, a dance floor with his name on it, and the true life of the party. His zest for life was infectious. If you couldn’t find Emerson on a tractor then you would probably find him on his boat in the Chesapeake Bay. Emerson is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his daughters, Jennifer Annis (Isaac), Lori Beck (John), and Ashley Fox (Ben); grandchildren, Justin and Matt Annis (Chelsea), Camden and Kesteren Beck, and Carter and Eli Fox; and great-grandchildren, Grayson and Abigail Annis. Emerson was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and a member of the Onancock Elks Club and Exmore Moose Lodge.

The Smith family is sincerely grateful to the caring professionals at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital and the Citadel.

Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 8, at 3 p.m., at Liberty Cemetery in Parksley.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1254, Parksley, VA 23421, or the Polycystic Kidney Foundation (PKD.)
