Mr. James Francis Adams, affectionately known as Big Jim, passed away peacefully Aug. 8, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Oct. 28, 1960, a son to the late James Francis Adams Sr. and Louise Tull, Big Jim made his way in the world by owning and operating Adams General Contractor. Big Jim was always “at home” in his dump trucks, excavator, or tractor. He passed on his work ethic to his children, who looked up to him affectionately for guidance and learning.

Big Jim was a family man and he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Nancy Moore Adams; his two sons, Roger Adams and his wife, Britney, and Thomas Adams and his wife, Michelle; his mother, Louise Tull, and her husband, Eddie; his sister, Janet Mason, and her husband, Matt; brother, Michael Adams; stepsister, Vicky Tull; grandchildren, Brenna, Savannah, Waylen, Emma, Austin, Billy, Brandon, and Noah; stepmother, Hazel Adams; his puppy, Lady Bug; and several nieces and nephews.

Big Jim was predeceased by his father, James Francis Adams Sr.; and two sisters, Joanne Adams and Terri Lynn Adams.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Salyer Funeral Home Inc., on Chincoteague Island.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, at 2 p.m., at Chincoteague Church of God, with the Rev. John Thornes and the Rev. Kevin Stanley officiating.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the cancer charity of your choice in Big Jim’s honor.

Services are entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home Inc. on Chincoteague Island.
