Nandua Hosts Cross-Country Invitational

Eastern Shore cross-country teams competed once again last Wednesday, Sept. 15. Girls and boys teams from Northampton, Nandua,  Arcadia, and Chincoteague competed in a 5K course at Nandua High School. 

Many of the runners for the girls teams beat the times they set during the previous meet. For Nandua, Grace Bentley and Taylor Thornes took four minutes off their previous time and Laylah Jones beat her previous time by three minutes. 

For Northampton, Jocelyn Torres and Lizania Morales set new personal records and reduced their previous times by five and three minutes respectively. Courtney Smaw set a new personal record and reduced her previous time by four minutes. 

Nandua boys placed first with seven runners finishing in the top 10. Northampton boys placed second with Fernando Palacio, Grayson Brown, and J.T. Applegate finishing in the top 10.

Top finishers in the girls category were: Grace Bentley (NAN 23:24), Lizania Morales (NHS 23:52), Jocelyn Torres (NHS 25:23), Laylah Jones (NAN 25:51), and Taylor Thornes (NAN 26:06).

Top finishers in the boys category were: Carlo Balmoria (NAN 17:17), Bryan Tinoco (NAN 18:07), Brayden Shotwell (NAN 18:23), Fernando Palacio (NHS 19:19), and David Gastelum (NAN 19:25).

The next Eastern Shore cross-country invitational took place Sept. 22, at 4 p.m. Chincoteague High School hosted Northampton, Nandua, and Arcadia.
