Mrs. Nellie Dawn Pruitt Jones, 73, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, at Alice B. Tawes Nursing Home in Crisfield, Md. Born Nov. 23, 1947, on Tangier Island, Nellie was the only daughter born to Alva Wesley Crockett and Marian “Macie” Crockett.

The sweetest of souls, Nellie’s heart of gold was known to all, especially children. She loved working with the youth of Tangier, and nothing brought her more joy than being a Boy Scout Leader and taking trips to River Valley Ranch. Nellie remained close with the Lord throughout her life and was a faithful member of Swain Memorial United Methodist Church, and after moving to Crisfield in 2004, she joined the Church of God. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness and compassion, and especially for her dedication and limitless love for her family.

In addition to her parents, Nellie was blessedly reunited with her late husbands, Harold Gordon Pruitt and Tommy Jones; brothers, Earl Hickle and Johnnie Hickle; and her beloved son, Harold Gordon Pruitt Jr.

Nellie is survived by her daughter, Chris Landon, and her husband, Darren, of Check, Va.; sons, Mike Pruitt, of Tangier, and Tom Jones and his wife, Sarah, of Crisfield; brother, David Crockett, and his wife, Donna; sisters-in-law, Betty Hickle and Jeanette Hatcher; daughters-in-law, Dorothea Pruitt and Elizabeth Pruitt; grandchildren, Justin Landon, Rochelle Crockett (Bill), Taylor, Trent, Paige, Tyler, and Zachary Pruitt, Leigh Shores, and Jess, Hannah, Ella, and Jack Jones; great-grandchildren, Isabella Landon, and Peyton, AJ, and Parker Shores; several nieces and nephews; many cousins; and countless friends.

Funeral services will be held at Swain Memorial United Methodist Church Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at 2 p.m., with her son-in-law, Pastor Darren Landon, and Pastors Bob Daniels and Charles W. Parks III officiating. Interment will follow in the Crockett Family Cemetery.

There will be a visitation at the church Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, from 6 until 8 p.m.

The ferry schedule is Sunday, Oct. 9: Onancock wharf – The Joyce Marie will depart at 11 a.m.; Crisfield dock: The Sharon Kay will depart at 11:30 a.m., and The Steven Thomas will depart at 12:30 p.m.
