Yellow Jackets Victorious Against Undefeated Middlesex Chargers

The Northampton Yellow Jackets traveled to Middlesex this past Friday to face an undefeated Chargers team. They won 49-14. 

The Yellow Jackets started off strong. On their first possession, running back Dustin Splawn scored with a 90-yard kickoff return. The Yellow Jackets scored two more rushing touchdowns, a 77-yard run by running back Alex Courtney and a 14-yard run by Splawn, to finish the first quarter with 21-7 lead. At halftime, the Yellow Jackets were on top 28-7. In the second half, they outscored the Chargers 21-7 to reach the final score. 

The Yellow Jackets dominated on the ground, finishing with a total of 480 rushing yards. Courtney had 10 carries for 185 yards and one touchdown. Splawn had 21 carries for 148 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Liam Flynn had seven carries for 62 yards and one touchdown. Jaylen Stevens had three carries for 55 yards. Tanner Feltes had two carries for 19 yards.

Defensively, Courtney and Spawn had six tackles each. Stevens had five tackles. Feltes had four tackles. Flynn had four tackles and one interception. Colin Hopper and Jaivon Burton had two tackles each. Gibson Hubbard had one tackle.

Michael Myers, principal of Northampton High School, promised the Yellow Jackets that if they won against Middlesex he would sleep on the school roof. He kept his word and slept on the roof Tuesday, Oct. 5.

The Yellow Jackets’ next game is Monday, Oct. 11. They will host West Point at 7 p.m.
