Coastal Flood and High Surf Advisories in Effect

The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va., has issued a briefing highlighting prolonged tidal flooding today, Oct. 10, into Monday. Coastal Flood and High Surf advisories are in effect until 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. tonight, respectively.

Overview and impacts:

  • Moderate tidal flooding is expected from the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay through Hampton Roads, the lower Eastern Shore, and the Currituck Outer Banks during high tide later this morning into the afternoon. Coastal Flood Warnings are in effect for these areas. Minor tidal flooding is expected elsewhere.
  • Additional minor to locally moderate flooding is possible during high tide later Monday morning into the afternoon.
  • Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result in an elevated threat of property damage where moderate flooding is forecast.
