The Northampton Yellow Jackets faced a big challenge last Friday evening when they hosted an undefeated Portsmouth Christian team with several Division I prospects. They came up short 61-51.

In the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets trailed Portsmouth by 21 points. They bounced back into the game after a 50-yard run by Alex Courtney led to a touchdown. For the rest of the night, Northampton’s high-powered rushing attack tore Portsmouth’s defense to shreds, but it wasn’t enough to pull off the victory.

Running back Dustin Splawn had a strong performance. He had 24 carries for 251 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Liam Flynn had 16 carries for 109 rushing yards and one touchdown. Courtney had 16 carries for 97 rushing yards and one touchdown.

For their next Friday night showdown, the Yellow Jackets travel to Maryland to face the Snow Hill Eagles. Their next home game is against the Nandua Warriors Friday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m.
