The Northampton Yellow Jackets and the Chincoteague Ponies faced each other Tuesday, Oct. 19. The Ponies, coming off a 3-0 victory against Nandua the previous week, were looking to remain undefeated in district play. The Yellow Jackets won 3-2.

The first set was a tight contest in the first half, but in the second half the Ponies took control of the game, winning 25-15. The second set was a hard-fought battle. The Ponies built a 16-19 lead midway through, but the Yellow Jackets refused to surrender and fought back until the score was tied at 25. The Ponies didn’t waver. They kept their foot on the gas long enough to close out the set 27-25.

The Yellow Jackets came out strong in the third set, winning 25-13. The fourth set was a back-and-forth contest with several lead changes. Near the end, the Ponies were up 20-18 and appeared ready to take home the victory, but the Yellow Jackets rallied to win 25-20. Riding high on their momentum, the Yellow Jackets won the final set 15-11.

The Yellow Jackets’ next district match is Oct. 27 against the Arcadia Firebirds, who will be looking to avenge their Oct. 14 loss. The Ponies hosted Arcadia on Oct. 21 and will travel to Onley to face the Nandua Warriors Tuesday, Oct. 26.
