Coastal Storm Could Bring High Winds, Flooding

National Weather Service Wakefield, Va., has issued a coastal storm briefing highlighting the potential impacts from a coastal storm expected late this week.

  • Confidence is high for moderate coastal flooding for areas adjacent to the middle/upper Chesapeake Bay and tidal rivers. Water levels 2-3′ above normal tide.
  • Period of greatest impact: Late Thursday through Saturday. Highest waters levels are expected Friday.
  • Gale force winds are expected for the Chesapeake Bay, coastal waters, lower James River, and the Currituck Sound. These strong winds will lead to dangerous seas. 
  • Large breaking waves could cause instances of beach erosion on Friday.
