Mrs. Thelma Lewis Abbott, 91, wife of the late Buck Abbott and a resident Virginia Beach, formerly of Cheriton, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, at Pelican Healthcare in Virginia Beach. A native of Wachapreague, she was the daughter of the late Edward Lewis and the late Florence Richardson Lewis. She was a member of Cheriton United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two children, Linda Linzey and Dan Phillips Abbott, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Sylvia L. Stephens, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Vernon Lewis, of Cheriton, and Samuel Lewis, of Singers Island, Fla.; two grandchildren, Jason Gordon and his wife, Kathryn, of Spotsylvania County,Va., and Kathlin Gordon, of Virginia Beach; three great-grandchildren, Lily Gordon, William Gordon, and Emmalyne Furman; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, at 1 p.m., at Cheriton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Timmerman officiating. Interment will follow in Cape Charles Cemetery. While inside the church, everyone is asked to wear a face covering. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23453, or a charity of one’s choice.
