Mrs. Mary T. Meehan, 93, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family Friday, Dec. 3, 2021.

She was born in Bronx, N.Y., Nov. 1, 1928, a daughter to the late Margaret and Francis O’Loughlin. Mary attended St. Benedict’s Parochial and also graduated from Cathedral High in NYC. After marrying, she raised a family of ten children, eventually settling in Lake Carmel, N.Y. As the children grew older, she went back into the workforce, eventually retiring from her position as a data entry operator for the County of Putnam. Upon retirement, she moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where she was genuinely and warmly welcomed into St. Andrews Parish. She had always been active in her New York parishes and continued the tradition in her new church community, serving at one time as president of  Three C’s Club. Mary was the proud manager of The Just Us Singers, helping to coordinate visits to area nursing homes where she performed with the group, bringing entertainment to the residents and brightening their days.

As a former New Yorker, Mary was a lifelong fan of her favorite team, the Yankees. Her father instilled the love of his favorite team in his little girl at an early age, spending many wonderful afternoons with her at the ballpark. Following her team on TV was a favorite pastime right up to the last weeks of her life.

She is survived by her beloved brother, Francis O’Loughlin; her children, Thomas, Kathleen, Robert, Mary Therese, Anne Louise, Patrick, Margaret, and Joan; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; brother, Donald; sister, Margaret; much-loved sons, Daniel and Richard; and an infant grandchild, Laura.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St.  Andrew’s Church Saturday, Dec. 11, at 11a.m., with reception to follow in the parish hall.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any who wish to may make a donation in her name to the charity of their choice, and wishes to express profound gratitude to the caregivers from Intrepid Homecare, Dr. Mary Fleury, and the I.C.U. team at Atlantic Hospital for their dedication and excellent care.

Services are entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home Inc., on Chincoteague Island, where condolences may be made online at www.salyerfh.com
