Arcadia Firebirds Defeated by Vikings in Home Opener

The Lady Vikings traveled to Arcadia last Thursday for Arcadia’s first home game of the season. Broadwater took the lead early and was successful running a full-court press during the second quarter. The Vikings held onto their lead for most of the game, but the Lady Firebirds were not ready to fold. 

Going into the fourth quarter the score was 23-29. Arcadia took advantage of multiple steals on defense to bring the Firebirds within two points. With 3:15 left on the clock, the Lady Firebirds took the lead with a score of 36-35. 

The teams went shot for shot, exchanging the lead multiples times until Broadwater called a timeout with 41.5 seconds left in the game. Coming out of the timeout, Broadwater was up 38-41. The Lady Vikings were able to manage the clock and pull away in the final moments of the game. Broadwater defeated Arcadia with a final score of 38-43. 

Miniya Cropper lead the offense for the Firebirds, recording 14 points. She also had 14 rebounds and four blocks. Jayda Tull had a career high of 11 points on the night with six rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Tiana Bagwell contributed with 6 points and 16 rebounds.

The Lady Vikings pulled away with the win behind leading scorer, Suzanna Long, who had 11 points and five rebounds. Taylor Leland added to the score with 9 points and one assist. Other notable players for Broadwater include Leah Smith with 10 points, three rebounds, and  one steal and Faith Johnson with 8 points and three rebounds.
