Mrs. Frances Dorothy Cantrelle (Suklje), residing on Chincoteague Island for the past 32 years, left her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease behind to be with the Lord on Dec. 20, 2021. She was born in Reading, Pa., on May 15, 1927, a daughter to the late Mary and John Suklje. Frances worked for many years as a secretary/bookkeeper for several companies, most recently for Beltone Hearing Aids in Reading.

Frances was a loving sister, aunt, wife, mother, and grandmother. Upon retirement, Frances made the move to Chincoteague where she was the devoted grandmother to Joseph and Robert Kassab. She was instrumental in raising her grandsons and they were her source of great joy. Their outings included the beach, pool, library, soccer games, Little League games, basketball, car washes, church events, plays, speeches, and graduations to name a few.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bugar (Cantrelle); her grandson, Joseph, and his wife, Madeline; great-grandchildren, Claire and Rebecca; her grandson, Robert; her sister, Louise Graybill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Cantrelle; her son-in-law, Dennis Bugar; her sisters, Catherine Springer, Marguerite Yaklich, and Anna Cowdrick; and her brothers, Robert Suklje and John Suklje.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church on Chincoteague Island, where Frances was a faithful parishioner, on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at 11 a.m., with Father Michael officiating. She will be buried in Gethsemane Cemetery in Reading, alongside her husband, Earl Cantrelle, on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
