Northampton Hosts Fred Diem and Scott Miles Wrestling Tournament

On Jan. 15, Northampton High School hosted its annual Fred Diem/Scott Miles Wrestling Tournament. A total of eight teams participated including local high schools Nandua, Northampton, and Arcadia. Each team sent players to the podium to receive medals for their successes while Nandua topped local schools with a second-place team finish. 

Three wrestlers from Nandua placed first in their weight classes. After an impressive undefeated tournament, David Gastelum, in the 182-pound weight class, and Colin Ford, in the 145 weight class, both took home gold medals. In addition to Nandua’s first-place winners, Brandon Adamos defeated his opponent in the championship, taking first place in the 285 weight class. 

Many other Eastern Shore wrestlers were rewarded second and third place in the tournament. From Arcadia High School, Winchino Veriedu, 106 weight class (second); Michael Settle, 160 (second); William Rantz, 220 (third); and ElClifton Thurman, 285 (second). 

Northampton’s only wrestler competing this weekend, Gavin Brittingham, came in third place in the 152 class. The Nandua winners were Joseph Prendergast, 126 (second); Brantley Smith, 126 (third); Ben Stodghill, 132 (second); Ben Gutierez, 135 (third); and Hunter Rippon, 220 (second).
