Local Wrestlers Place in Regional Tournaments

Nandua and Arcadia traveled to Poquoson High School for the 2A East Regional tournament last weekend. 

As a team, Nandua was able to qualify seven of its wrestlers while taking third in the region. In the 145 weight class, Colin Ford placed first for Nandua along with David Gastelum in the 182 weight class. Joseph Prendergast at 126 and Ben Gutierrez at 138 each took home second-place medals. Also qualifying for the state tournament with third-place finishes for Nandua: Ben Stodghill, 132, Trey Warren, 195, and Hunter Rippon at 220. 

Arcadia had one wrestler, Winchino Verdieu qualify for the state tournament after placing second in the 106 weight class. 

Meanwhile, Northampton’s wrestling team competed in the 1 A/B Super Regional tournament. The Yellow Jackets had five wrestlers place and qualify for the state tournament in Salem, Va. Gibson Hubbard placed second for Northampton in the 220 weight class and Tanner Feltes took third at 160. Taking fifth place was J.T. Applegate at 145, Gavin Brittingham at 152, and Devon Johnson at 285. 

All of the wrestlers who placed at regionals from Northampton, Nandua, and Arcadia will compete again at the state tournament in Salem Feb. 18 and 19.
