Mrs. Eva Marie “Easy Ree” Pruitt, 84, wife of the late Willie “Bill Frank” Pruitt Jr. and a lifelong resident of Tangier Island, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022. Born Aug. 15, 1937, on Tangier, she was the daughter of the late Malcom Garland Dise and the late Eva Mae Dise.
Easy Ree led a life defined by her faith in the Lord, devotion to her family, and love for her friends, neighbors, and animals. As a member of the New Testament Congregation, she took great pride in her church and worked for many years to ensure it was always clean and everything in its place. Her favorite pastime was reading the Bible, having read it cover to cover at least 45 times. Easy Ree married the love of her life, Bill Frank, to whom she remained a loving wife until his passing in 2012. She adored her loved ones, both human and four legged, and will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Wade and her husband, Ralph, of Crewe, Va., and Steve Pruitt and his wife, Nina, of Tangier, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Norma Pruitt, and brother, Malcom Dise.
Funeral services will be held at the New Testament Congregation Friday, Feb. 18, 2022, at 2 p.m., with Elders Jerry Frank Pruitt and Duane Crockett officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
