Local High School Wrestlers Place in State Tournaments

The class 1 and 2 VHSL State Wrestling Tournament was held at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Va., this past weekend Feb. 18 and 19. Nandua, Arcadia, and Northampton each participated in the tournament. 

Three wrestlers placed in the top six. Nandua’s David Gastelum earned third place at 182 pounds and Colin Ford came in sixth place at 145 pounds in Class 2. Northampton’s Tanner Feltes came in third place at 160 pounds in Class 1. 

Nandua’s Joey Pendergast won two matches at the state tournament. Ben Gutierrez won one match. Arcadia’s Winchino Verdieu won two matches. 

Broadwater wrestler William Wehner participated in the VISAA (Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association) State Wrestling Championship this past weekend. He earned third place at 120 pounds, qualifying him for Prep Nationals this upcoming weekend.
