Vikings Win Last Home Games

The Broadwater Vikings girls varsity basketball team hosted its last home game of the season Friday, Feb. 18. The Vikings faced Gateway Christian Academy. The Vikings won 34-13. 

The Vikings’ defense opened the game with a strong showing, forcing Gateway to commit multiple turnovers. This allowed the Vikings to go on a 16-0 run, before the opposing team put points on the scoreboard. At halftime, the Vikings led 24-4. In the second half, the Vikings outscored Gateway 10-9 to close out the game and wrap up their season with a 10-7 record. 

Suzanna Long led the offense with 7 points, one rebound, and one steal. Taylor Leland had 6 points, one rebound, and two steals. Haylely Nalls earned 5 points, three rebounds, and one steal. Leah Smith had 4 points and two rebounds. Faith Johnson earned 4 points and one rebound. 

Following the girls game, the Vikings boys varsity basketball team also faced Gateway Christian. The Vikings jumped out to a dominant first half, taking a 55-21 lead. In the second half, the Vikings outscored Gateway 21-16 to win the game with a final score of 76-37. The boys conclude their season with an 18-6 record. 

Bradyn Washington led the offense with 21 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Willie Holden had 13 points, five rebounds, and one steal. Levin Smith earned 13 points, four rebounds, and one assist. Braden Justice had 9 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. Malik Battle earned 9 points, two rebounds, and three steals. 

On Thursday, Feb. 24, the girls varsity team faced Gateway once again in the Metro Conference First Round Regional Tournament. That same evening, the boys varsity team faced Stonebridge in a first round regionals matchup.
