Lady Ponies Defeat Lady Vikings

The Chincoteague Ponies varsity softball team traveled to Exmore to face the Broadwater Vikings Tuesday, March 29. The Ponies defeated the Vikings 11-0.

The Ponies took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning following a home run and one RBI by Emma Jackson. The Vikings managed to hold the Ponies defensively over the next two-and-a half innings. In the fourth inning, the Ponies scored two more runs to increase their lead to 9 points. The Ponies scored two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, including another home run by Jackson, to close out the game.

McComb pitched the entire game, allowing two hits and striking out eight batters. The Ponies’ offense was led by Jackson who hit two home runs, had four RBIs, and scored three runs. Sara Godwin had three hits, one RBI, and scored two runs. Caity Kerchner and McComb each earned two hits. Lola Watson, Allie Bell, Lillie Matthews, and Marley Katsetos each had one hit. 

For the Vikings, Ramsey Revell led on the pitcher’s mound, giving up 13 hits, walking two batters, and striking out five. Taylor Leland and Revell each earned one hit. 

The Ponies’ next softball game will be held on their home field Monday, April 4. They will face Holly Grove Christian School at 4:30 p.m. The Vikings are set to embark on a series of away games that include matchups against Atlantic Shores Christian School and Greenbrier Christian Academy.
