The Arcadia and Chincoteague baseball teams met up on the diamond for the second time this season on Tuesday, April 26. The last game between these two teams came down to the final innings when Chincoteague pulled away with a one-run win. The Firebirds were prepared to avenge the loss in Tuesday’s home game.

Both teams fought hard in the rematch but things started to get interesting in the fifth. Chincoteague came to the plate down 3-2 in the top of the inning. The Ponies were able to draw two across the plate after a single by Sam Pomerleau. The score was 5-5 in the middle of the fifth inning, when the umpires called the game due to inclement weather. Arcadia was not given the chance to respond in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead.

Nathan Barnes started on the mound for Arcadia, giving the team four innings of work. Barnes gave up three runs on six hits, walking one and striking out 11. Landon Fuller came in for relief in the fifth inning. Fuller allowed one hit and one run with three strikeouts. Chincoteague’s Wyatt Revell pitched for three and two-thirds of an inning in the game, giving up eight hits and four runs with two walks and two strikeouts.

Offensively both teams battled hard in the box with Arcadia recording eight hits and Chincoteague with seven. Zach Giddens led the Firebirds at the plate, going 2-for-2 with one RBI. Fuller also recorded two hits in the game with one RBI. Chincoteague’s Pomerleau went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, followed by Revell who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

The Firebirds traveled to Chincoteague on Thursday, May 5, to square off against the Ponies in the final matchup between the two teams.
