Mr. John Joseph Lonergan, 91, of Wallops Island, formerly of Boonton, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at his home with his loving family at his side.

John was born at 62 Harrison St. in Boonton. He was a member of the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corp. from 1945 to 1949. He enjoyed stock car racing with his good friend Steve Maciag. John was a graduate from Boonton High School, class of 1949, and married Evelyn Leske Lonergan (deceased) in 1952. John proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He was a pipefitter working for Westenberger Mechanical Contractors before retiring in 1992.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Rockaway Valley Cemetery, Powerville and Valley roads, in Boonton Township.

John was the beloved husband of 45 years to Harriet Lonergan (nee Sutcliffe); devoted father of Lyn Salink and her husband, Richard, John and his wife, Maria, Judy Franke and her husband, Kurt, and Janice Menduni and her husband, Michael; loving brother of Ada DiEdwardo; cherished grandfather of eight; and great-grandfather of 10. He is also survived his adoring cat family.
