Two Broadwater Athletes Participate in AAU Virginia District Qualifier

Two Broadwater students, Rylee and Brelyn Coates, participated in the AAU Virginia Southern District Qualifier for track and field Saturday, June 11, at Varina High School in Henrico, Va. 

Brelyn, participating in the 11-year-old age group, placed third in high jump competition, second in turbo javelin, and fourth in shot put, with results of 3-02, 50-03, and 15-05 respectively. 

Rylee participated in the 14-year-old age group and came in third place in long jump competition, jumping 16-05, and third place in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 13.00 seconds. 

Both girls will advance to the AAU Region 5 National Qualifier for the Junior Olympics in Highland Springs, Va., on June 23. The top six people in each event will advance to the AAU Junior Olympics this summer in Greensboro, North Carolina. Rylee will also compete in pole vault, triple jump, and her first pentathlon at the regional qualifier.
