Mrs. Virginia Marshall Mason Harton, 84, went to be with the Lord on July 21, 2022. Virginia was born in Delaware on Oct. 7, 1937, and grew up in Greenbackville. She called Virginia Beach her home for most of her life.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Ruth Mason, and sister, Sarah Jensen.

She is survived by children, Jack Harton Jr. (Gina), Ruth Cody (John), Jimmy Harton (Debbie), and Kelley Harton (Annette); grandchildren, Elizabeth Griffin (Kevin), Jennifer Harrison (Ryan), John Mason Cody, Brittany Harton (Nick), Tommy Harton, Megan Harton, and Mia Harton; sister, Eva Saylor; special family friend, Veronica Lockemer; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; many that called her Mom, Grandma, Grandma Stay, and a host of friends who loved her and will miss her immensely.

Virginia was known for her love of people. She never met a stranger. She loved to laugh, make others laugh, and share food (her specialty – peanut butter fudge) with family and friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she called “my precious.” She leaves behind memories of rollerblading on the boardwalk, playing “Ring Around the Nosey” on their hands and knees, “Beauty Shop” in Vermont, and 1 a.m. brownie sundae adventures. Other memorable times they will treasure forever will stay just between them.

Virginia’s family would like to express their appreciation for the kindness, support, and messages of sympathy and comfort. They especially wish to thank Comfort Care Hospice and all the remarkable nurses, nursing assistants, and staff who provided support and care with respect, dignity, love, and prayers for Virginia as she transitioned to be with the Lord.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Great Bridge Community Center, 212 Holt Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23322.
